Fever Signs and How to Tell if Your Child in real sense has Fever

Fever is always one of the reasons why we have our children taken to the emergency rooms. This is so common and we actually don’t feel surprised by this fact. Childhood is often occasioned with a lot of fevers and are also quite fearful to the child and the parents all the same. We are going to look at some of the tips which will be quite effective to help the parents handle the fevers that will catch their young ones at certain points in time and quite common as we have mentioned above.

The first question we may find resourceful for answering is a definition of what fever is in real sense. Generally, a fever is defined as a body temperature that is higher than normal. Body temperature is taken using a thermometer. Even though fevers are at times helpful in the fact that they can help you fight infections, when they go above the normal, you will find them causing you worries and making the child a lot uncomfortable.

You may be asking yourself the question of how do you know your son or daughter has caught fever. Depending on age, a child with fever will show certain changes in their body and will feel hot. With the newborn child, the first sign after an attack following the rise in temperature, will be the refusal to feed, either by breast or bottle and will as well be a lot more sleepy and fussy than is their usual case. The older babies and the toddlers, note the signs in increased crankiness and being less energetic and interested in so many things as is the norm. Fever quite as well destroys a child’s appetite and they will have an extreme feeling of thirst. Irritability and feeling withdrawn out of lack of interest in most of their activities is yet another sign of fever in the toddlers and the older babies. They will as well show the signs in troubles falling asleep or being unusually sleepy. Look out for the signs of fever in your child age above 2 when you see them feeling tired and being unusually whining, when they are asking for drinks than is usual and complain of chills and or pains in their body. Should you see any of these signs in your young one, you will be good taking and noting their body temperature and tell if they could be catching or have caught a fever.

The steps to taking the body temperature will be the next item we will be looking at. You may find it a bit confused when you come to the point of deciding which thermometer for the task as there are quite a number of the thermometer tools for doing this available I the drug stores around you.
